I am Masahiro Iijima, Ph.D., M.D., Director of Suginami International Clinic.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude for your trust and support over the past year. It is truly a privilege to care for your health and well-being, and I look forward to continuing this journey with you in the coming year.

Last year was particularly meaningful for me as I achieved a significant personal milestone. I successfully passed the final recital exam in the Vocal Music program at Musashino Academia Musicae and will be submitting my master’s thesis by the end of this month. Balancing my academic pursuits with my responsibilities at the clinic was both challenging and deeply rewarding. I am especially grateful to all my patients for their understanding and encouragement throughout this time.

In September 2005, I earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Holistic Nutrition from the American Holistic College of Nutrition in Birmingham, Alabama. This education deepened my understanding of holistic medicine, which remains a respected approach in the United States. During the three-year-long COVID-19 pandemic, the principles I learned in holistic nutrition were invaluable. They enabled me to protect not only myself but also my patients, staff, and family under the immense pressures of the pandemic. This experience reinforced my belief in the importance of integrating holistic practices alongside conventional medicine to achieve better health outcomes.

My studies in vocal music have also provided me with valuable insights into breathing techniques that contribute not only to relaxation and mental balance but also to the alleviation of symptoms associated with asthma and other allergic conditions. These skills have enhanced my practice as an allergy specialist, allowing me to integrate innovative approaches to improve patients’ quality of life.

At Suginami International Clinic, we emphasize the importance of General Medicine as the foundation for our specialized care. By integrating General Medicine with our board-certified specialties—Psychosomatic Medicine, Kampo Medicine (Japanese Traditional Medicine), Allergy, and Rheumatology—we strive to address a wide range of health concerns comprehensively and holistically. This approach ensures that our patients receive both specialized and general care tailored to their individual needs.

In my areas of expertise—Allergy and Rheumatology—advancements in cutting-edge medical research, primarily driven by U.S.-based innovations, play a crucial role. However, in real-world clinical practice, incorporating knowledge and experience from natural and traditional therapies is equally vital. This holistic approach enables us to address the diverse needs of our patients effectively and compassionately.

As a rheumatology specialist, I emphasize the connection between internal medicine and musculoskeletal care to treat autoimmune conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis. By combining advanced treatments with personalized care, I strive to help patients regain mobility and lead fulfilling lives.

In February, we will be implementing a more efficient appointment scheduling system to make it easier for you to access care. At Suginami International Clinic, we remain committed to delivering patient-centered healthcare by integrating General Medicine with our specialized fields, ensuring comprehensive support for a wide range of medical needs.

明けましておめでとうございます。

杉並国際クリニック院長の飯嶋正広です。旧年中は皆様から多大なご信頼とご支援を賜り、心より感謝申し上げます。皆様の健康と幸福をサポートできることを心から光栄に思います。

昨年は、私にとって特に意義深い年となりました。武蔵野音楽大学声楽科の最終試験に合格し、今月末には修士論文を提出する予定です。学業とクリニックでの責任を両立させることは、困難ではありましたが、非常にやりがいのあるものでした。この間、患者の皆様にはご理解と励ましをいただき、心より感謝しております。

2005年9月、私はアラバマ州バーミンガムのアメリカン・ホリスティック・カレッジ・オブ・ニュートリションでホリスティック栄養学の博士号を取得しました。この教育により、米国で今もなお尊重されているアプローチであるホリスティック医療への理解が深まりました。3年間にわたる新型コロナウイルス感染症（COVID-19）のパンデミックの間、ホリスティック栄養学で学んだ原則は非常に貴重でした。この原則のおかげで、パンデミックの大きなプレッシャーの下で、自分自身だけでなく、患者、スタッフ、家族を守ることができました。この経験により、より良い健康状態を実現するには、従来の医療とホリスティックな実践を統合することが重要であるという私の信念が強まりました。

声楽の勉強から得た呼吸法に関する貴重な洞察は、リラックスや精神のバランスだけでなく、喘息やその他のアレルギー症状の緩和にも役立ちます。これらのスキルは、アレルギー専門医としての私の診療を向上させ、患者の生活の質を改善するための革新的なアプローチを統合することを可能にしました。

杉並国際クリニックでは、専門的ケアの基礎として総合医療の重要性を重視しています。総合医療を心療内科、漢方医学（日本伝統医学）、アレルギー、リウマチ科の認定専門分野と統合することで、幅広い健康上の問題に総合的かつ全体論的に取り組むよう努めています。このアプローチにより、患者様一人ひとりのニーズに合わせた専門的ケアと総合的ケアの両方を提供することができます。

私の専門分野であるアレルギーとリウマチ学においては、主に米国発のイノベーションによって推進される最先端の医学研究の進歩が重要な役割を果たしています。しかし、実際の臨床現場では、自然療法や伝統療法の知識や経験を取り入れることも同様に不可欠です。このホリスティックなアプローチにより、患者の多様なニーズに効果的かつ思いやりを持って対応することが可能になります。

リウマチ専門医として、私は内科と筋骨格ケアの連携を重視し、関節リウマチなどの自己免疫疾患の治療にあたっています。先進的な治療と個別ケアを組み合わせることで、患者が再び自由に動けるようになり、充実した生活を送れるよう、私は日々努力しています。

2月には、より効率的な予約システムを導入し、皆様がより簡単に診療を受けられるようにいたします。杉並国際クリニックでは、総合診療と専門分野を統合し、幅広い医療ニーズに総合的に対応することで、患者中心の医療の提供に引き続き努めてまいります。
